Summary

Become enchanted by the fantasy world of gods and mortals in bestselling author Scarlett St。 Clair's reimagined New Greece。 Readers are "hopelessly addicted" to the story of Hades and Persephone told from Hades's point of view。

Hades, God of the Dead, does not take sides or bend the rules。 He makes no exceptions to these values-not for god or mortal, even his lover, Persephone, Goddess of Spring。

Usually, fear prevents retaliation。

But not this time。

When Hera, Goddess of Women, approaches Hades with a plan to overthrow Zeus, he declines to offer help。 As punishment, Hera sentences Hades to perform a series of labors。 Each feat seems more impossible than the last and draws his attention away from Persephone-whose own tragedy has left her questioning whether she can be Queen of the Underworld。

Can Hades maintain the balance he craves?

Thank you Tantor Audio and Netgalley for this advance audiobook copy for A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St Clair (book 2 in the Hades Saga Series)。 Recommend reading this series in order。I been interested in reading more Hades and Persephone retelling。 So was glad to get this。 First I will say it took me awhile to get into the narrator of this。 I thought he did great when in other characters but when Hades was not interacting with others or description of the book it took me a while to get us Thank you Tantor Audio and Netgalley for this advance audiobook copy for A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St Clair (book 2 in the Hades Saga Series)。 Recommend reading this series in order。I been interested in reading more Hades and Persephone retelling。 So was glad to get this。 First I will say it took me awhile to get into the narrator of this。 I thought he did great when in other characters but when Hades was not interacting with others or description of the book it took me a while to get used to his style。 I felt like he shined more as other characters。 When he was Hades he came a live for me when he was with the Persephone character and when the angry part of Hades came out。 As Hades it took me 30 %of the book to really get into the narrative。As far as the book I enjoy what we got from Hades and Persephone as a couple。 They where the highlight for me。 Even with the slow start for me I enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read Scarlett St Clair more。Giving it a 3。75 star rating (upgraded to 4 stars on this rating system)。 。。。more

A Game of Retribution was much better than A Game of Fate, I'm saying it now。The thing that bugged me with the first Hades book, is that it felt like the exact same book as A Touch of Darkness just from a different PoV。。。which is exactly what it was。 This was fixed in the second novel, and we got to see a lot more of Hades on his own (or behind the scenes if you will)。 That was honestly a blast, and makes this book better than A Touch of Ruin too。 Likewise, in Persephone's PoV she was a lot more A Game of Retribution was much better than A Game of Fate, I'm saying it now。The thing that bugged me with the first Hades book, is that it felt like the exact same book as A Touch of Darkness just from a different PoV。。。which is exactly what it was。 This was fixed in the second novel, and we got to see a lot more of Hades on his own (or behind the scenes if you will)。 That was honestly a blast, and makes this book better than A Touch of Ruin too。 Likewise, in Persephone's PoV she was a lot more annoying than seeing her in Hades's PoV now。 I almost didn't feel like she regressed in her confidence/powers, but it was still evident, just to a lesser degree。 This book also jumps around a lot less than the first, so there is some continuity (but if you're new to the series I'd still say read Persephone's PoV before this since it could potentially get confusing)。 I got the impression that the steam was more prominent here, and it didn't bother me, there was an added scene that was really cool。 While I'm at added scenes, I love that we saw what Zofie did。 I figured she'd tell Persephone at some later date when she was ready, but it's also nice that we finally know。 And the thing I was hoping for, but didn't get is Minthe。 No reaction to her plant-ification whatsoever。 Perhaps it'll be in another book? I badly want to see it。 My hopes for book three of this series are that there will be minimal overlapping scenes。 I only want to read about Hades's shenanigans, please and thank you。 And yeah, that cliffhanger ending was cruel, as expected。 *Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review* 。。。more

3。25 starsThank you NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange of a honest opinion。A Game of Retribution is the second book with Hades POV, following the story of "A Touch of Ruin"。 As a fan of the series, I was really excited for this book and although it was nice to see some of my favorite characters again, it felt very much as a re-read。 I really enjoyed to see the "backstage" of Hades dealings, some of his interactions with the other Gods and Titans away from Persephone but I think it wasn't 3。25 starsThank you NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange of a honest opinion。A Game of Retribution is the second book with Hades POV, following the story of "A Touch of Ruin"。 As a fan of the series, I was really excited for this book and although it was nice to see some of my favorite characters again, it felt very much as a re-read。 I really enjoyed to see the "backstage" of Hades dealings, some of his interactions with the other Gods and Titans away from Persephone but I think it wasn't enough。 In particular, his interactions with Persephone from his point of view just made me annoyed with her for always doing the complete opposite of what she was supposed to do and ask questions later (I think I was able to accept some of her actions in the main series)。 Additionally, I love some spice in my books but I think it was a bit too much when I noticed I was skimming through those scenes because I had already seen that before。The positive points was Hermes and Hecate。 I like their relationship with Hades very much and I was savoring the book every time they came into the scene。 I also liked to see the foreshadowing of the war that is about to happen after reading "A Touch of Malice"。 Overall is a fun read but if you want to stick with the main series, you will get the message the same way。 。。。more

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。I read this as an audiobook and I’m conflicted on whether or not I would’ve enjoyed it more had I read an e-book or physical copy。 The narrator did a wonderful job, don’t get me wrong, but it did feel one-dimensional for a lot of his reading。 I did rather enjoy his take on Hermes though! I will say however, there is a very nice amount of spice in this read! However, I don’t know if that alone would entice me to read further into the series。If you enjoy a good Hades and Persephone spicy read, definitely consider picking this up! 。。。more

Since everything mentioned in this book is connected。 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read the books in order starting with, “A Touch of Darkness”, everything’s connected and it’ll make more sense, and enhance the experience of seeing what Persephone and Hades went through individually。This book was from Hades point of view during the events of “A Touch Of Ruin”, but like the other books it was told from third person P。O。V。 Hades had his own problems to deal with from an ex lover reappearing, to Hera’s labors to complete in order to have a marry Persephone one day, and mortals trying to overthrow the Gods。 When I read, “A Touch of Ruin”, my heart broke for Persephone and especially for Lexa, but it was something in the storyline that Persephone had never experienced which was grief, losing someone close to her。 While Persephone was dealing with a lot in that book, in this book it really cleared up some things that I didn’t know, and revealed more about what was truly happening with Hades during, “A Touch of Ruin”。Honestly Scarlett could have easily just kept writing the main books as it’s own, but by writing these books (Hades Saga) it connected everything, and revealed strong insight into Hades life, his thoughts, and feelings。 Once again, highly recommend reading these books in order as well。 Hades story reflected not only his own obstacles he had to overcome, but also him trying to learn how to allow Persephone to remain independent, and not too overprotective despite his fears that other Gods might hurt her as revenge/leverage against him。 After the events of the first book, “A Touch of Darkness”, Hades and Persephone’s relationship was revealed to all of New Greece。 In a way, Hades and Persephone were still adapting to their relationship since they got back together and trying to figure each other out, but with the hordes of people wanting to know everything about them, and nefarious people like Kal trying to blackmail Hades, it seemed like the lovely couple had a lot on their plates。 Hades and Persephone’s relationship was a combination of learning to navigate of being together, and also finding balance。 Despite having some arguments and disagreements on Persephone writing the article about Apollo or Hades not telling Persephone about Luece, they always managed to work things out, and talk it over。 Having good communication is key to any relationship and while Hades and Persephone sometimes struggled, they always managed to get to the root of their issues, but of course there were obstacles for them in order to get to that point。 This book covered a bit of a heavy topic(s) so make sure to look up trigger warnings (warning also included in first page of book before reading)。 With topics of suicide, assault, and loss of a loved one, this story was different compared to the previous books。 Yes there was still some violence and blood due to Hades torture against souls or those who wanted to harm Persephone, but this time it was different。 When i read, “A Touch of Ruin”, I got to see Persephone’s side of the story and specifically how she tried dealing with Lexa’s death, and subsequently tried bringing her back despite Hades telling her that wasn’t possible。 In “A Game of Retribution” not only were the stakes high for Hades but also throwing in Persephone trying to revive Lexa and trying to go up against God’s like Apollo, Hades was usually in a state of worry, anger, and concern over Persephone。Now while this book dealt with some heavy topics, there was still some of that good old humor that Scarlett included such as, through Hectate, Hermès, and Hades and Persephone’s flirty banter。 Some of the funny parts were probably mostly from Hermès, that god truly had no shame and was hilarious。 Of course I also enjoyed the SPICY SCENES WHOOP WHOOP! Like I knew there was spice in this book, but… omg! These new scenes were delectable, all I gotta say is, if I think about Hades and Persephone with a camera…WOW (If you know, you know!) the romance and spice was great as always。This story had me feeling anxious, sad, happy, and overall wanting more。 Yup I had a mixture of lots of emotions while reading。 I felt sympathetic towards each Hades and Persephone。 Each was dealing with a lot and at times I was worried about their relationship。 Yes I already knew what was going to happen since I read “A Touch of Ruin”, but reading it through Hades P。O。V。 made it feel like I was reading a different part of the plot。 Overall, I enjoyed this book, and it was great jumping back into the world of Greek mythology but with Scarlett’s take on it。 。。。more

There is so much more to this book than "A Touch of Ruin from Hades' point of view"。 Hades has so much going on that we don't get to see in A Touch of Ruin and Persephone's POV。 Part of me is annoyed at Hades for keeping so much from Persephone, but he grew so much during this book (as did Persephone) and I love that we get to see everything leading up to A Touch of Malice and eventually, A Touch of Chaos。 This book really shows how complex the world of the Gods is and I can't wait to see how ev There is so much more to this book than "A Touch of Ruin from Hades' point of view"。 Hades has so much going on that we don't get to see in A Touch of Ruin and Persephone's POV。 Part of me is annoyed at Hades for keeping so much from Persephone, but he grew so much during this book (as did Persephone) and I love that we get to see everything leading up to A Touch of Malice and eventually, A Touch of Chaos。 This book really shows how complex the world of the Gods is and I can't wait to see how everything ends。 I also love Hades relationships with Hecate and Hermes and all the little moments in the underworld which show his humanity。 This series is just so much fun and if you love these characters, Hades' POV is a must read!Thank you to NetGalley, Scarlett St。 Clair, and Sourcebooks, Bloom books for the ARC! 。。。more

May I also add that he is a certified alcoholic and everyone knows it because that man went through about 200,000 glasses of whiskey from the start to the end of the book。 Overall I’m really excited to see what A game of gods brings! I highly recommend that you read this as it’s a different storyline to A touch of darkness and those books as, they follow Persephone pov (the last one is a dual pov)。 。。。more

I'm not sure what the Hades Saga really adds to what is otherwise a very good series。 A complete retelling of A Touch of Ruin but from Hades perspective, it feels like a completely different (albeit action packed and intense) story which pauses occasionally to intersect with the main book。 It didn't quite work for me, but I still adore the main series and will continue to pick that up!I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review。 I'm not sure what the Hades Saga really adds to what is otherwise a very good series。 A complete retelling of A Touch of Ruin but from Hades perspective, it feels like a completely different (albeit action packed and intense) story which pauses occasionally to intersect with the main book。 It didn't quite work for me, but I still adore the main series and will continue to pick that up!I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

A Game of Retribution is an alluring, woven tale of loss and love。 Hades and Persephone deal with their own turmoils in this spectacular addition to Clair’s A Touch of Darkness series。 A Game of Retribution is Hades’s point of view of the events from A Touch of Ruin, with another complex story running parallel to Persephone’s。Hades wants nothing more than a future with the lovely Persephone。 He knows she is the one - the only one for him。 Nobody else has ever compared。 There is something divinely unique about how Persephone’s love can pierce his aged and longing heart; bringing life to the God of the Dead。 Persephone is the Lois Lane to his Superman; they’re inseparable。 Even through their darkest moments, they always find solace in each other。 That being said, nothing can tear them apart。 Or can it?Hera, the goddess of marriage and love, intends to hold Hades’s future in her hands。 Seeking retribution, she assigns Hades intense and cruel labors to complete。 In return, she vows not to doom his relationship with Persephone。 Hera is vindictive and vile, forcing Hades into horrible situations, outright indifferent to the pain and suffering she is causing him。With each task increasing in its level of haunting and violence, Hades finds himself in a tough place mentally。 Not wishing to share the devastating aspects of his life, Hades acts alone, questioning himself and his future at every given turn。 While things get heated, Hades drifts away from Persephone when she needs him most。A Game of Retribution reads slow but steady。 It is a story that takes time to unravel, but the reward is undeniable。 It is a breathtaking and satisfying read! Scarlett St。 Clair puts everything she has into the love and loss that both Hades and Persephone face。 A Game of Retribution deals with heavy themes and makes one consider their own life and how every one of us are forced to embrace our darkness and seek light。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 How can Hades be so old and still be so clueless! 🤦‍♀️ Hecate and Hermes are still my faves。 I wasn't sure on the whole idea of Hera's labours though I feel like the book only skimmed the surface of Hades storyline and we could have had more of a deep dive into his history with the other gods and how he feels about how people perceive him。 I dunno I just wasn't feeling it so much as the others I guess。 Will still continue to read though cos Hades and Persephone are hot together and I need to kno How can Hades be so old and still be so clueless! 🤦‍♀️ Hecate and Hermes are still my faves。 I wasn't sure on the whole idea of Hera's labours though I feel like the book only skimmed the surface of Hades storyline and we could have had more of a deep dive into his history with the other gods and how he feels about how people perceive him。 I dunno I just wasn't feeling it so much as the others I guess。 Will still continue to read though cos Hades and Persephone are hot together and I need to know what happens in the end! 。。。more

I typically do not read fantasy books, but I fell in love with Scarlett’s Hades and Persephone series so I have continued to read their story in Hades’ POV as well。 I love any Hades and Persephone retelling so I will read any release about them。In Game of Retribution, we see Hades’ POV of a Touch of Ruin。 It has a lot more detail of what went on behind the scenes during this point in Hades and Persephone’s relationship。Hades point of view on his relationship, as well as his role as a God, is ext I typically do not read fantasy books, but I fell in love with Scarlett’s Hades and Persephone series so I have continued to read their story in Hades’ POV as well。 I love any Hades and Persephone retelling so I will read any release about them。In Game of Retribution, we see Hades’ POV of a Touch of Ruin。 It has a lot more detail of what went on behind the scenes during this point in Hades and Persephone’s relationship。Hades point of view on his relationship, as well as his role as a God, is extremely intriguing。 We see how deeply he loves her and is quite literally willing to fight to the death to keep her in his life。 The couple has countless roadblocks to their relationship, many that Persephone isn’t even aware of。 Hades works to get rid of every single one and I loved learning all these things that we didn’t in TOR。 It makes you love Hades even more。Both Hades and Persephone keep busy in their personal lives, so much of this book is actually more about Hades than the couple together。 There are still plenty of scenes with them and the whole focus is on them, but we see Hades privately in his role as a God。 Whether it’s dealing with things in his realm, coming to Persephone’s rescue, completing grueling tasks for their relationship, or discovering a potential for war, Hades is extremely busy。Scarlett is very knowledgeable in Greek mythology and it is super interesting to learn about throughout her stories。 Obviously this series is a modern retelling so there are many present day aspects, but to it’s core it’s based on the original plot。 She provides a ton of details and makes it exciting to read, especially from Hades’ POV being God of the underworld。I listened to the audiobook performed by Tyler Donne and it was my first book I listened to narrated by him。 I always imagine Hades as a certain way with a certain voice and I feel like he emulated the idea of him in my head。 I really enjoyed his narration and he voiced the other character’s well too。*ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review*⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️。5/5 stars🌶🌶🌶/spice level🖤Tropes: modern Hades/Persephone retelling, greek mythology romance, hero only POV, I hate everyone but you, sunshine/grump🎧Audiobook listen 。。。more

This is the most impressive dual perspective book I have ever read。 Hades has so many secrets and interactions that were not visible in the Persephone books 。 I adore how the story ties together and leads to the same end with so many twisted issues provided。 This book is steamy and all your favourite characters are presented 。 Hades story is exhausting and it is any wonder he drinks with so many demands to juggle including a budding romance 。 If you have enjoyed the previous books this edition w This is the most impressive dual perspective book I have ever read。 Hades has so many secrets and interactions that were not visible in the Persephone books 。 I adore how the story ties together and leads to the same end with so many twisted issues provided。 This book is steamy and all your favourite characters are presented 。 Hades story is exhausting and it is any wonder he drinks with so many demands to juggle including a budding romance 。 If you have enjoyed the previous books this edition will not disappoint 。 I look forward to finding out more in the saga of my favourite Gods living their best lives in New Greece 。 。。。more

Arc Copy thanks to NetGalley! I literally squealed when I was approved for this arc! Hearing Hades and Persephone’s story from Hades perspective fills in gaps, and answers questions I had reading Hades x Persephone’s Saga! My opinion of the things Hades did or didn’t do has totally shifted!!! I couldn’t put this down, and only did to sleep!
